Presented by Kelly Idiart, Chapter Vice President,
Assistant
Manager of Technical Services, Central Concrete Supply Co., Inc.

Davenport,
Radum,
Olympia,
Port Costa . . .
Davenport Cement Plant North of Santa Cruz
Do those names bring back memories of materials that we thought
would always be available?
What about Calaveras, Ideal,
Centerville?
The nature of raw material supply for concrete is ever-changing.
There are a number of reasons for changes in material
availability, but the fact of the matter is that the days of
constant material sourcing are gone, if they truly ever existed.
The presentation will give an overview of where we were, where we
are, and where we may be headed as well as offer suggestions as to
possible approaches to the inevitable changes that will come in
spite of our best intentions of maintaining constant sources of
raw material supply.
Our Chapter has a tradition of the first meeting of the new year
offering a glimpse of future challenges and opportunities for the
concrete industry, and our January 10 presentation by Kelly Idiart
continues that tradition.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE 2014 SPRING
ACI
CONVENTION IN RENO
Prior to our May 10
SNCA/ACI dinner in Reno, members of the ACI Chapter Board and SNCA Board
and staff had lunch and a productive work session with a
presentation from Robyn Nichols of the Reno-Sparks Convention
and Visitors Authority and Charmaine LaMay, who provided a walking
tour of the Grand Sierra Resort that she represents to
convention clients such as ACI International.
The GSR will be the host venue the 2014 Spring
ACI Convention, and as we are the Host Chapter for the
event, our Convention Committee will be populated by California
and Nevada volunteers.
If you would like to get involved in
the Convention Committee -- and there is something for everyone to do
-- please contact 2010-2011 Chapter President Tarek Khan who
is Co-Chair of the Chapter Convention Committe at
tarek.khan@basf.com.
